Program of the Morocco Tour from Rabat to Marrakech
Day 1: Rabat – Chefchaouen
We will begin our 6-day Desert Tour from Rabat to Marrakech by exploring the highlights of the capital city, including historic sites such as Hassan Tower, Shella Kasbah, and Oudaya Kasbahs. Then we depart Rabat for Chefchaouen, which is famous for its vivid blue-rinsed houses and is popular with both tourists and Moroccans, especially during the hot summer months. There will be enough time in Chefchaouen to explore the winding lanes and narrow alleys that are home to numerous souks offering cuisine and artisan works. Chefchaouen is where you will spend the night.
Day 2: Chefchaouen – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes
We depart Chefchaouen for the archaeological site of Volubilis (Walili) and begin our exploration of the fascinating Roman ruins, which are adorned with beautiful mosaics and colorful tiles depicting Roman mythology.
The tour continues to Meknes, which Sultan Moulay Ismail chose as his capital at the end of the 17th century. The city was built with 20 gates, more than 50 palaces, and 15 miles of surrounding wall. We will visit the well-known Haras de Meknes and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, as well as some Meknes highlights such as Bab Mansour Gate and Place Lhdim (Square of Ruins). After exploring Meknes, we will drive for 40 minutes to Fes. Fes at night
Day 3: FES – Fes guided tour
You begin a day tour in Fez with a local guide, where time stands still in the old medina. Fes is an exquisitely preserved medieval city with donkey-wide alleyways and souks. The famous palace gate, the Mosaic factory, La Madrasa Attarine, the Najjarine Fountain, and the mosques of El Qaraouine, Madrasa Bonania, and Tanneries will all be visited during your guided tour. You prefer that we drop you off in your authentic Riad after the visit, which can end at any time.
Day 4: FES – AZROU – MIDELT- MERZOUGA DUNES
Our guide will meet you at your Riad in Fes at 8 a.m. We begin our journey across the Middle Atlas to the Erg Chebbi dunes via Ifrane, Azrou, cedar forests, and the Ziz Valley gorge. It is an interesting road in a beautiful landscape that provides great opportunities to take pictures; we stop for lunch in Midelt.
We continue to the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you will ride a camel for two hours to watch the sunset at 250m. We will spend the night in a luxury desert camp, where dinner will be freshly prepared and served under the stars. After dinner, it is always fun to gather around the fire for some drum music.
Day 5: Merzouga dunes – Todra Gorges – Dades valley
If we get up early enough, we can see the sunrise, when the color of the dunes and the play of shadows is breathtaking. We depart for Tinghir and the Todra Gorges for lunch after breakfast.
The road traverses Tinjdad and the Todra Valley. There are many places to walk in this area, such as along the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorges. We continue to the Dades Valley for the night. A hotel night.
Day 6: Dades valley – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
We begin by driving through the Dades Valley, with its beautiful mountain formations and fig trees, towards the gorges. We can take an hour to explore the valley before driving to Ouarzazate, the famous city of cinema, with a few stops to see the Kasbah of Taourirt and the cinema studios. The tour then takes us to the famous UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. It is one of the main shot places of the Game of Thrones.
