Program of our Fes 3-day pottery Classes:

Day 1: Introduction to Moroccan Pottery /2h/

Your guide and driver will pick you up from your accommodation in Fes and transfer you to the pottery workshop to meet your English-speaking artisan. Begin your first session with an introduction to the tools and materials, as well as an overview of the history and cultural significance of Moroccan pottery. Under the supervision of an experienced craftsman, you’ll learn how to shape and mold clay using a pottery wheel. Start with basic forms such as bowls or small dishes, gaining confidence in the techniques. After the session, your guide will transfer you back to your accommodation.

Day 2: Exploring Advanced Techniques /2h/

Your guide will pick you up again at your chosen time, and you’ll return to the workshop to build on your skills. This session focuses on exploring advanced techniques, such as carving, etching, and adding texture to your creations. Learn about traditional Moroccan motifs and integrate them into your work. You’ll have the chance to refine your pieces from Day 1 or create more intricate items, such as small tagines or decorative plates. After two hours of hands-on learning, you’ll return to your accommodation, bringing your progress.

Day 3: Decorating and Finalizing /2h/

On the final day, you’ll be picked up and taken to the workshop for the last session. This class focuses on decorating and finishing your pottery pieces. You’ll learn to apply traditional glazes and colors, adding intricate designs and personal touches. The artisan will guide you through the firing process, solidifying and enhancing your work. While the firing may take additional time to complete, you’ll leave with the satisfaction of creating unique Moroccan pottery pieces. At the end of the workshop, your guide will drop you off at your accommodation, marking the conclusion of your pottery experience.

Moroccan Pottery Workshops: Traditional Ceramic and Tile-Making Classes in UNESCO Fes

Step into the heart of Morocco’s ancient ceramic traditions with an immersive workshop experience in the UNESCO-listed city of Fes. Led by master potters whose skills have been refined and handed down over generations, these hands-on classes offer you a rare glimpse into the centuries-old art of Moroccan pottery. The natural grey clay found around Fes, celebrated for its smooth texture and exceptional workability, plays a central role in the city’s famed ceramic craft.

During your workshop, you’ll shape this prized clay using traditional wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques that have remained unchanged for centuries. As your creation dries, you’ll witness a fascinating transformation as the rich grey tones lighten, setting the perfect stage for Fes’s signature white glaze and vivid cobalt blue patterns. Thanks to the mineral-rich nature of the local clay, your finished pieces will not only be works of art but also highly durable and suitable for everyday use — microwave and dishwasher safe.

In this personalized pottery class, you’ll work closely alongside Fes’s master artisans, gaining insider knowledge of techniques, traditions, and decorative styles that have shaped the city’s reputation as a global center for fine ceramics.

Private, Customized Pottery Experiences

Our pottery workshops in Fes are offered exclusively through private sessions, ensuring a tailor-made experience where you’ll receive dedicated guidance and attention. Each workshop is carefully adapted to match your skill level, whether you’re discovering ceramics for the first time or refining existing talents.

Fes: Embrace the Legacy of Blue and White Ceramics

Within the historic ceramic quarter of Fes, skilled artisans will mentor you through the creation of the city’s iconic blue-and-white masterpieces. During this full-day hands-on workshop, you’ll:

  • Learn ancient pottery techniques using traditional wheels and hand tools

  • Explore the intricate art of Islamic geometric design

  • Craft your own unique ceramic pieces using authentic local materials

  • Gain a deeper understanding of the symbolic importance of Fes’s cobalt blue motifs

  • Take home your personally crafted pottery pieces as a lasting memento

An English-speaking guide will accompany your session, providing translation and cultural insights to help you truly appreciate each technique and tradition shared during the workshop.

The Timeless Ceramic Tradition of Fes

With a pottery heritage stretching back more than a thousand years, Fes remains at the heart of Morocco’s ceramic artistry. Here, Islamic, Moorish, Andalusian, and Berber influences have merged to create a distinctive, world-renowned style. Fes’s delicate blue and white ceramics stand as a testament to the city’s artistic legacy, with each piece reflecting centuries of cultural exchange, craftsmanship, and passion.

What Awaits You in Your Fes Pottery Workshop
