You may ask about: 4 Days Tour from Marrakech to Fes

What type of vehicle is used for the tour?

Tours are typically done in a 4×4 SUV or a comfortable air-conditioned minivan with a professional driver/guide. Some private tours use luxury vehicles.

Is camel trekking included?

Yes. Most tours include camel rides across the dunes of Erg Chebbi (usually at sunset and sunrise), often as part of the overnight stay in the desert.

Can I choose to stay in a luxury desert camp?

Absolutely. Most tours offer the option between a standard desert camp or a luxury camp with private bathrooms, better bedding, and even Wi-Fi.

Are meals included in the tour package?

Typically, breakfast and dinner are included, especially at the desert camp and hotels. Lunches are usually not included, giving travelers freedom to choose where and what to eat.

How far is Merzouga from Fes and Marrakech?

  • Fes to Merzouga: ~470 km (7–8 hours with stops)

  • Merzouga to Marrakech (via Dades Valley and Ait Ben Haddou): ~560 km (spread over two days)

Is the tour suitable for children or seniors?

Yes, but camel rides might be challenging for some. Most operators can adapt the experience (e.g., short camel rides or 4×4 transfer to the camp) for families with kids or elderly travelers.

What should I pack for the desert tour?

  • Comfortable clothing

  • A jacket (desert nights can be cold)

  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Travel-size toiletries

  • Power bank or flashlight

Is the desert safe for tourists?

Yes, Merzouga and its surrounding desert areas are very safe for travelers. Local guides are knowledgeable, and desert camps are well-organized.

Can I start the tour from Marrakech and end in Fes?

Yes. The itinerary can be reversed. Many agencies offer a 4-day tour from Marrakech to Fes, with the same desert experience.

Are there shared and private options?

Yes. You can choose a private tour for more comfort and flexibility, or a shared small group tour (usually cheaper but with a fixed itinerary).

When is the best time to go on a desert tour in Morocco?

  • Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the best weather.

  • Summer is very hot in the desert, and winter can be very cold at night.

Is there Wi-Fi or charging available at the desert camp?

In luxury camps, yes. Standard camps may have limited electricity and no Wi-Fi. It’s best to bring a power bank and enjoy the digital detox.

Can dietary requirements be accommodated?

Yes, just inform the tour provider in advance. Vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free meals can usually be arranged.

Are There Toilets and Bathrooms in the Desert?

Yes – But It Depends on the Camp Type:

  • Standard Desert Camps
These usually offer shared toilets and showers in a separate block. Facilities are basic but clean and functional.
Don’t expect hot water 24/7, and you might need to bring your own toiletries and towel.

  • Luxury Desert Camps
These come with private en-suite bathrooms, flush toilets, hot showers, and sometimes even solar-powered electricity. Some high-end camps resemble boutique hotels in the dunes.

  • During Camel Trekking
There are no bathrooms in the open desert during the camel ride. If nature calls, you’ll have to go behind a dune — so bring tissue, hand sanitizer, and a discreet bag for waste if needed.

Are There Restaurants in the Desert?

  • Inside the desert itself (dune area), there are no public restaurants like in a town or city.

  • All meals are served by your camp – they prepare dinner and breakfast, often freshly cooked on-site.

  • In nearby villages like Merzouga, you’ll find local restaurants, cafés, and small shops where you can eat or buy snacks before or after the desert portion of your trip.

What Types of Food Are Served in the Desert?

You’ll be pleasantly surprised by how good the food is, even in the middle of the dunes! Most camps offer a traditional Moroccan menu:

🍲 Dinner

  • Harira (traditional soup with tomato, chickpeas, and lentils)

  • Tagine – chicken with lemon and olives, lamb with prunes, or vegetable tagine

  • Couscous with seasonal vegetables

  • Grilled meats (at luxury camps)

  • Fresh Moroccan bread

  • Fruit (oranges, bananas, dates)

  • Mint tea (“Moroccan whisky”) served with dessert or after meals

🥐 Breakfast

  • Moroccan pancakes (msemen) or baghrir (semolina crepes)

  • Fresh bread, butter, jam, honey

  • Eggs (boiled or omelet style)

  • Cheese or yogurt (in higher-end camps)

  • Fresh fruit juice and tea/coffee

Vegetarian or Special Diets?

Yes — most desert camps can cater to vegetarians, vegans, or gluten-free diets if told in advance. Vegan tagines, lentil stews, or fresh salads are often prepared on request.
