Participants will start by selecting their pottery piece, whether it’s a traditional tagine, a decorative plate, or a colorful bowl. Then, using a palette of rich, earthy colors, they’ll bring their designs to life, inspired by the intricate motifs that define Moroccan art. As they paint, they’ll gain insight into the cultural significance behind each pattern and color choice, making their creation not just a souvenir, but a piece of Moroccan history. The workshop is both a creative and cultural immersion, offering a unique opportunity to connect with the artistic heritage of Morocco in a deeply personal way.

How it works:

Welcome and Introduction (10 Minutes)

  • Greet participants and introduce the workshop.
  • Briefly explain the history and cultural significance of Moroccan pottery.
  • Overview of the workshop agenda and materials provided.

Selecting Pottery Pieces (10 Minutes)

  • Participants choose their pottery piece (e.g., plate, bowl, tagine).
  • Introduction to different pottery shapes and their traditional uses.

Design Inspiration and Sketching (15 Minutes)

  • Overview of traditional Moroccan patterns and their meanings.
  • Participants are encouraged to sketch their designs on paper first.
  • Guidance on color choices and combinations.

Painting and Decorating (60 Minutes)

  • Begin the painting process with hands-on guidance from artisans.
  • Tips and techniques for creating clean lines, intricate patterns, and blending colors.
  • Artisans circulate to offer personalized advice and assistance.
  • Participants paint their pottery, bringing their designs to life.

Drying and Final Touches (10 Minutes)

  • Allow the pottery to dry while discussing the next steps (e.g., firing, glazing).
  • Optional: Add any final touches or embellishments.

Showcase and Reflection (10 Minutes)

  • Participants share their finished pieces with the group.
  • Group photo opportunity with completed pottery.
  • Wrap-up with a discussion on the experience, cultural insights, and takeaway memories.

Closing and Souvenir (5 Minutes)

  • Hand out certificates of participation.
  • Provide information on when and how to collect the fired pottery (if applicable).
